CostBuffer privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026
CostBuffer is a Shopify app made by Triple U Solutions ("we"). It keeps each product's cost per item up to date when you buy from suppliers in another currency. This policy explains what CostBuffer reads from your store, what it changes and keeps, and for how long.
What CostBuffer reads from your store
- Products and variants you choose to manage: titles, SKUs, the product's main image, cost per item and stock on hand.
- Your store's currency.
- Your plan: whether your store has an active CostBuffer subscription (billed by Shopify).
CostBuffer does not read orders or anything about your customers.
What CostBuffer changes
- The cost per item of the variants you manage with CostBuffer.
- A small marker on those variants (a metafield saying CostBuffer manages the cost), so other apps leave the cost alone. Stopping management removes it.
What we store
- Your store's Shopify domain and the access token Shopify issues to the app.
- For each managed variant: its IDs, titles, SKU, supplier cost and currency, purchases you record (quantity, cost, date, stock before) and a history of the costs CostBuffer wrote, with the exchange rates used.
- Your settings.
We store no information about your customers.
Exchange rates
CostBuffer gets daily exchange rates from Frankfurter (frankfurter.dev), which publishes official rates from central banks and other public bodies. These requests contain only currency codes and dates, never anything about your store.
Operations
To keep CostBuffer running we record technical errors (what failed, when, and your store's domain; never costs, purchases or customer data) and send short notices to our team's Slack workspace when a store installs, starts or ends its plan, or uninstalls, and when an error needs attention. These notices contain your store's domain. Error records are deleted after 30 days.
How we use it
Only to run CostBuffer for you. We don't sell or share your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Where it is kept
On our servers at DigitalOcean (New York, United States), with encrypted backups in DigitalOcean Spaces. Traffic to the app passes through Cloudflare. These providers process data only to host and protect the app.
Deleting your data
We can send you your costs and purchases on request. When you uninstall CostBuffer we delete your store's data straight away, and again when Shopify asks us to (48 hours after uninstalling). Backups that may still contain it expire within 30 days. The costs already written to Shopify stay in your store. To ask about or delete your data at any other time, email us.
Your rights
Whatever your location, you can ask us what we hold about your store, to correct it or to delete it, by emailing us. Triple U Solutions is responsible for this data.
